A Japanese-American born on December 24, 1900, on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. She was diagnosed with a serious gall bladder disease. Hayashi Sensei visited Takata Sensei in Hawaii in 1938 and initiated her into Shinnpiden (Reiki Shihan or Teacher). She brought Reiki to the West. Between 1970 and 1980, Takata Sensei has initiated 22 Reiki Teachers (so-called Reiki Masters in the West). There are now tens of thousands of Reiki Masters and millions of people practicing Reiki throughout the world. Because of HAYASHI Chujiro Sensei and Hawayo Takata Sensei, Reiki hands-on healing method has become widespread in the West.
